‘How to Teach Your Baby to Read’ Resumed

Bismillaah

Alhamdulillaah, yesterday, I resumed Glenn Doman activity with ‘Abdurrahman again. I started showing him the flashcard based on Glenn Doman method when he was 3 months. However on that time it was not consistent. One week we did all the sessions and maybe the next week, I didn’t finish the activity. On top of that we were busy traveling back and forth from KT to KL for different purposes.

Alhamdulillaah, it seems ‘Abdurrahman loves this reading activity! Before I start showing him the flashcard, I would recite some du’as first “Bismillaah, rabbanaa zidnaa ‘ilmaa, Allaahumma faqqihnaa fiddeen!”. Whenever I say this, he would smile as if he knows that we’re going to start the fun reading activity, maashaaAllaah! Then after that I just show the 5 huge flashcard, 1 second each.

In brief, the Glenn Doman method goes like this:

- You make huge flashcards (22″x6″) and the word written in red ink.

- The flashcards are divided into set. Each set has 5 words and each set you show to your baby 3 times a day for a minimum 5 days. For example:

• Day 1: show your baby 1 set (5 new words) - Total session: 3 times
• Day 2: Show your baby 2 sets (the first set from the day 1 and the other set is another 5 new words) - Total session 6 times
• Day 3: 3 sets (i.e set from day 1, day 2 and another set of 5 new words) - Total session: 9 times
• Day 4: 4 sets (i.e. set from day 1, day 2, day 3, and another set of 5 new words) - Total session: 12
• Day 5: 5 sets - Total session: 15 times
• Day 6: 5 sets - however, you take out one old word from the first set (i.e. set from day 1) and add with a new word.

The key in doing this method is: consistent, fast, and…. I forgot…. Yeah, fast because you just show the flashcard only 1 second! then you show another one.
